Brow Lift & Eyelid Surgery in New Jersey

If you feel healthy and vibrant, it's only natural that you want to look that way. As we get older, this may not always be the case. Instead, we begin to see wrinkles and loose, sagging skin. If these signs of aging have occurred on your face, especially in the area around your eyes, then you may be a candidate for a brow lift or eyelid surgery. In New Jersey, Dr. David Evdokimow performs these procedures for results that look naturally rejuvenated.

The eyes are the windows of the soul, responsible for expression of a broad range of emotions. In fact, movement of the eyes, eyebrows, and eyelids dominates facial expression. Unfortunately, the eye area (eyebrow/eyelids) is one of the first (and the most visible) to show signs of aging. The changes progress from wrinkles around the eyes to puffy eyes with dark circles, bags under the eyes, vertical and horizontal forehead wrinkles, and drooping eyebrows. All of these changes can lead to a tired, angry appearance.

You can learn more about blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and forehead lift in New Jersey by Request your consultation online or calling the offices of David Evdokimow, MD, at 908-221-1136.

Before the Procedure

During the consultation at his state-of-the-art plastic surgery NJ offices, Dr. Evdokimow will evaluate your facial proportions, including the height of the forehead, the position of the hairline, and the position of the eyebrows in relation to the supra orbital rim.

  • In women, a youthful-looking brow is low in the medial aspect (toward the nose) and gently arches and elevates in the lateral part (the tail) toward the temple. With aging, the eyebrows rotate and ride high in the medial aspect and low in the lateral aspect.

  • In men, the eyebrows are more horizontal and at the level of (or slightly above) the supra orbital rim. Excessive brow elevation in men, especially in the lateral part (the tail), can create a feminine appearance and should be avoided.

Dr. Evdokimow will also examine vertical and horizontal wrinkles and frown lines, the amount of sagging (upper eyelid ptosis), excess upper eyelid skin and fat, the tone and the position of the lower eyelid and its relation to the iris, the excess of skin and fat herrniation (bagginess) of the lower eyelid, the relationship of the lower eyelid to the mid face, and the height and the prominence of the cheek bone.

He may recommend evaluation by an ophthalmologist prior to surgery to examine visual fields, vision, eye dryness, as well as tear composition and production.

Other facial concerns are discussed and addressed. For more complete facial rejuvenation, many men and women choose to combine their eyelid surgery and brow lift with a face lift, nose surgery, or chin surgery. Dr. Evdokimow can discuss your options for combined surgery during your consultation. You may also want to consider minimally invasive procedures such as Botox, injectable fillers, lip enhancement, light or laser treatments and fat transfer in NJ.

Dr. Evdokimow will create an individual treatment plan for you, based on your goals, lifestyle and existing anatomy. Photographs with the face at rest and making an expression are taken so that you can see your results.

Eyelid Surgery in New Jersey

The eyelid surgery procedure will remove excess skin, remove or reposition fat deposits, reposition the muscle from the upper eyelids, and tighten the lower eyelids. The surgery may be performed in the office as an outpatient procedure, at a surgery center, or in the hospital. NJ eyelid surgery patients can choose from local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia.

Incisions will be placed carefully so that the resulting scar will be hidden in the natural creases of the eyelid. If only the lower eyelid fat needs to be addressed, the incision is made inside the eyelid (transconjunctival blepharoplasty). During the procedure, a combination of approaches can be used. Dr. Evdokimow will remove or reposition fat to decrease the fullness of the eyelids, tighten skin and remove excess skin to eliminate drooping and folds around the eyes. The incisions will be closed with fine sutures.

Brow Lift in New Jersey

Brow lift (forehead lift) is generally performed as an outpatient procedure in the hospital surgery center. If the procedure is combined with another surgery (such as a facelift or rhinoplasty), an overnight stay might be required, mostly for your comfort. Dr. Evdokimow’s New Jersey forehead lift patients can choose local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia.

The surgical approach:

  • Incision in the frontal and hair-bearing scalp: decreases forehead wrinkles and frown lines, elevates the eyebrows, increases the height of the forehead.

  • Incision at the hair line (pretrichila forehead lift): similar to the incision pattern above, this approach minimally alters the forehead height.

  • Through access scalp incisions with the help of camera (endoscopic brow lift): no scalp or forehead tissue is removed. The forehead and scalp tissue is shifted upward.

  • Direct approach: incisions are placed just above the area of concern. This approach is usually used for elderly patients or when the patient wants to minimize the extent of the procedure.

  • Through upper blepharoplasty incision: used in men who are bald or have a receding hair line. The brow is sutured in higher position along the frontal bone or the brow ridge.

  • Temporal brow lift: used when the central part of the forehead is optimal. Achieves a laterally elevated, younger-looking brow

After Surgery

Bandages or dressings are not required following eyelid surgery, but an antibiotic ointment should be placed on the incision for the first couple of days. Considerable eyelid swelling and some bruising around the eyes is expected, but will subside within the first 7 days. Some residual bruising may persist for up to 2 or 3 weeks. Sutures are removed in 5 to 7 days after the surgery. Makeup can be applied 7 days after the surgery.

If a brow lift is combined with blepharoplasty, postoperative care may vary from simple application of antibiotic ointment to bandaging of the scalp and face for the first 24 hours. Considerable swelling and some bruising around the eyes is expected. A cold compress can help reduce the swelling. Also, use of pre-operative supplements shortens the time for bruising and swelling. Sutures in the hairline usually dissolve or are removed within the first 2 weeks. Sutures at the hairline or above the eyebrows are removed in 5 to 7 days. Makeup can be applied 7 days after the procedure.

You can expect to take some time off from work to ensure a complete recovery and to safeguard attractive results. When swelling and bruising have subsided, you will see a smoother, younger-looking upper face. Wrinkles, drooping, sagging, and puffiness will be reduced for a thoroughly refreshed appearance.
