Mommy Makeover in NJ
Dr. Evdokimow

For a woman, few experiences in life — maybe even none — can compare to becoming a mom. But there is no denying that pregnancy and motherhood, regardless of how rewarding they are, take a toll on a woman's physical appearance. In addition to the stress associated with caring for a newborn around the clock, new mothers often experience undesired physical changes such as excess weight, stubborn pockets of fat and sagging breasts that no amount of exercise and dieting can correct. Changes affecting the facial contour and skin may also appear. The skin stretches to accommodate the excess weight during pregnancy. After the pregnancy, many mothers are left with loss of facial volume, deepened folds, skin laxity and wrinkles, which may also be observed on the neck. However, in the 21st century, there is no reason why a mother's body cannot be restored to its pre-pregnancy shape.

Today, cosmetic surgery procedures are safer than ever, and some have been specifically designed to address the unique aesthetic concerns of women after pregnancy. As an extremely qualified New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Evdokimow performs mommy makeover surgery, a comprehensive, individually tailored plastic surgery treatment that corrects several problem areas associated with childbearing.

To learn more about New Jersey mommy makeover surgery with Dr. Evdokimow, you can request your consultation online or call our offices at 908-221-1136. We serve men and women from New Jersey, New York and the rest of the country.

During pregnancy, women generally gain 25 to 35 pounds, all of which is stored as fat in the abdomen, breasts, flanks, hips, thighs and buttocks. As the baby grows, the abdominal area continues to expand, which often results in separation and weakening of the abdominal wall and muscles. Likewise, the breasts become larger in preparation for nursing. Sadly, months after delivery, the breasts deflate and sag due to volume loss and stretched breast tissue. Furthermore, excess skin stretching causes breakage of skin collagen, resulting in unsightly stretch marks in the lower abdominal area. While dieting and exercise may help eliminate extra weight, localized fat deposits, deflated breasts and stretch marks are permanent.

Mommy makeover surgery is specifically designed to treat aesthetic concerns that cannot be relived through physical activity and dieting. Because mommy makeover surgery is a highly versatile procedure that is customized to each patient's needs, it can entail two or more body sculpting treatments, often encompassing any combination of liposuction, tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, thigh lift and buttock contouring.

Before the Procedure

Mommy makeover surgery is a complex procedure and requires careful medical evaluation. During your consultation with NJ plastic surgeon Dr. Evdokimow, he will meticulously review your medical history, any complications during or after pregnancy and your use of alcohol, tobacco and herbal supplements. He will also perform a physical exam and identify trouble areas around the breasts, abdomen, buttocks and thighs. Once you are deemed a candidate, Dr. Evdokimow will listen to your aesthetic desires and discuss your treatment options.

Dr. Evdokimow will draft a treatment plan that will address your unique concerns. He will go over your preoperative preparations, incision placement, breast implant choices, if any, postoperative scarring, mommy makeover recovery and aftercare. Preoperative photographs will be taken so that you can receive before and after pictures following surgery.

Mommy makeover surgery is not recommended for patients who plan to have more children, who have not achieved a stable weight (or have not at least lost some of the excess weight after pregnancy) or who are still breastfeeding. In general, prospective New Jersey mommy makeover patients should wait at least six months after the birth of their child to undergo any plastic surgery procedures. This waiting period allows the hormones to stabilize and the body to return as close as possible to its pre-pregnancy condition.

The Procedure

Mommy makeover surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital setting. Depending on the extent of the procedure and the specific combination of treatments, some patients may require an overnight stay. Patients may also choose to address their post-pregnancy facial concerns and undergo facial volume restoration procedures, wrinkle treatments, laser skin resurfacing and/or removal of small fat deposits with VASER Lipo, which can be performed in an office setting.

Dr. Evdokimow performs several procedures as part of the mommy makeover, some of which include:

Breast enhancement surgery: This procedure can involve one or several cosmetic treatments, including breast augmentation, breast lift and breast reduction. Breast augmentation (breast enlargement) involves the use of saline or silicone breast implants to restore the size and volume of deflated post-pregnancy breasts. It is often performed alone or in combination with breast lift surgery, which repositions the breasts to a higher, more youthful position on the chest. Women who have naturally large breasts may choose to undergo breast lift alone or combine it with breast reduction surgery to achieve a more proportional and petite bustline.

Tummy tuck surgery: This procedure eliminates excess skin and fat of the abdomen and tightens the abdominal wall and muscles. It allows new moms to restore a firm tummy and a more attractive, defined waistline.

Liposuction: For new moms, liposuction can eliminate the remaining localized fat deposits that have not gone away with exercise and dieting. This extremely customizable procedure can be applied toward fat removal on any part of the body, typically the thighs, lower abdomen, buttocks and flanks (love handles). Dr. Evdokimow also offers the new, minimally invasive VASER Lipo procedure.

Thigh lift surgery and buttock contouring: These procedures addresses bulky and dimpled thighs and buttocks, allowing new moms to get back to wearing their skinny jeans, skirts and bikinis within a short period of time after surgery.

Facial and skin rejuvenation: Dr. Evdokimow can use a number of different treatments to restore facial volume, treat skin irregularities and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Sculptra injections, Ulthera skin tightening treatments and similar procedures can all be used to restore facial volume and tighten stretched skin due to excess weight gained during pregnancy. IPL and fractional lasers can be used to address residual hyperpigmentation of the facial skin. To learn about each procedure listed above, please visit the respective pages.

Once your surgery is scheduled, you will be given a detailed list of preoperative instructions, which will be tailored according to the different procedures you and Dr. Evdokimow decide on. It is important to avoid smoking, drinking and taking certain herbal supplements, as these can increase the risk of postoperative complications.

After Surgery

The recovery after mommy makeover surgery greatly depends of what type of procedures your treatment entails. In general, full recovery is achieved within four to six weeks after surgery. Any postoperative garments, stitches and drainage tubes are removed within four to seven days. Some bruising and swelling in the days following surgery is normal and subsides quickly. Postoperative discomfort is easily managed with mild pain medicine, which will be prescribed to you by Dr. Evdokimow.

After their mommy makeover surgery recovery, Dr. Evdokimow's patients are able to fully enjoy their motherhood while feeling attractive, youthful and confident.
