Sculptra in New Jersey
David Evdokimow, MD
Sculptra is made with poly-L-lactic acid. It works gradually and provides long-lasting results by stimulating collagen production. Dr. Evdokimow uses this injectable to restore facial volume and enhance the facial features of his plastic surgery New Jersey and New York Sculptra patients. The application of Sculptra requires superior knowledge of facial anatomy and precise surgical skills. Sculptra can be considered an alternative to fat grafting because it actually provides volumetric expansion of volume-deficient areas. Reports indicate that sustained increased collagen production can last more than two years after Sculptra injections. At present, Sculptra is the workhorse of our practice.
Before the Procedure
Before any filler treatment, a thorough evaluation is performed. The patient's concerns and goals are discussed and a physical examination of the treatment area is performed. Other facial features will be assessed in order to maintain facial symmetry. This information helps Dr. Evdokimow develop an individualized treatment plan for each Sculptra New Jersey and New York patient.
Patients can do their part to ensure positive results by discontinuing the use of blood thinners (such as NSAIDs, Coumadin, and herbal remedies such as St. John's wort). You should also stop smoking and using nicotine products such as gum or patches. Smokers are treated only after they are made well aware of the increased risks for complications and prolonged recovery times.
Treatment with Sculptra is frequently combined with other non-surgical treatments, such as Botox and Dysport. If treatment with Ulthera is planned after Sculptra, a grace period of 90 days should be given to ovoid interference with the longevity of the Sculptra results. Logically, these two treatments should have additive effect when combined in a timely fashion.
The Procedure
Dr. Evdokimow performs every Sculptra treatment himself at his office in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Local anesthetic is added to the filler to increase comfort. The use of additional nerve blockers is optional. The filler is injected through a small needle in deep tissue plains. Superficial injections should be avoided. Gentle massage of the treated area is performed during the procedure. Usually, three treatments are performed during the first year with six-week intervals between each treatment. The entire face is treated during each session. As treatment progresses, Dr. Evdokimow pays close attention to specific areas of concern in order to preserve facial harmony in New Jersey Sculptra patients.
After the Treatment
After treatment, you may experience some redness or swelling at the injection site. This will fade quickly and, in the meantime, can be covered with makeup. Application of ice packs will help to resolve the swelling. The treated area should be massaged gently five times a day for five days. Normal physical activities can be resumed the same day.
Sculptra has been shown to stimulate sustained new collagen production that lasts up to two years after the last treatment. Touch-up injections may be required.
Possible Complications
A lot has been published about the formation of subcutaneous nodules after Sculptra administration. The manufacturers of Sculptra are one of the few companies making effort to restrict its use by non-qualified practitioners. These additional restrictions have led to fewer side effects (such as nodules and papules under the skin) that can be caused by inappropriate injection techniques. Regardless of the technique, nodule formation is possible in patients prone to hypertrophic scarring and keloids. In those cases, aggressive augmentation should be avoided. It’s unclear whether the use of Sculptra is safe in the presence of autoimmune disease and therefore should be avoided by patients with such illnesses.
